Infant/Baby/Child Photography Session Guide
IInfant/ baby and child sessions are full of personality, curiosity, and big expressions — each stage offering something beautifully unique. This guide will help you understand the different session options and what to expect.
Infant Sessions (Post-Newborn)
Infant sessions are perfect for families who may have missed the newborn window. While your baby may be more alert and expressive, these sessions are all about:
- Capturing their blooming personality
- Sweet expressions, eye contact, and movement
- Natural interaction and connection
Some light props can still be incorporated, but the focus is less on posed images and more on who your baby is becoming.
Sitter Sessions
Sitter sessions are designed for babies who can sit independently (typically around 6–9 months).
These sessions can be:
- Simple and timeless, keeping the focus on your baby
- Themed, if you’re after something a little more playful
Sitter sessions are wonderful for capturing chunky legs, big smiles, and those proud sitting moments that pass far too quickly.
Cake Smash Sessions
Cake smash sessions are a joyful way to celebrate milestones, most commonly a child’s first birthday, but they are also perfect for:
- 2nd birthdays
- 3rd birthdays
- 4th birthdays
Cake smash themes are mainly balloon-based, with a selection of fun and cute themes also available.
Please note:
- The cake is not included due to allergies
- Not all cake smash sessions need to include a cake — a themed or balloon-only session is always an option
Styling, Props & Outfits
Styling is provided for all infant, sitter, and cake smash sessions, including props and backdrops.
Outfits:
- A selection of outfits is available for children up to 12 months
- You are very welcome to bring your own outfits if you have something special in mind
I’ll guide you on styling choices to ensure everything photographs beautifully and suits your chosen session type.
Older Children & “In the Box” Sessions
For older babies and children, I offer fun “In the Box” sessions.
These sessions:
- Allow children to bring their favourite items into the studio (toys, hobbies, sporting teams, interests)
- Are fantastic for showcasing personality
- Work especially well when there are multiple siblings, creating a cohesive and playful gallery
