Pet Portrait Session Guide
Our pets are family, and dog photography sessions are all about capturing personality — whether that’s goofy, soulful, elegant, or full of energy. This guide will help you understand the session options and how to prepare for the best possible experience.
Studio or Outdoor Sessions
Dog photography sessions can take place in the studio or outdoors, depending on the style you’re after and your dog’s personality.
Pet Portrais in the Studio
Studio sessions are perfect for controlled, distraction-free environments and can include:
- Portrait-style images that focus on expression and detail
- Fun treat-catching sessions on colourful backdrops for energetic dogs
- Fine art-style portraits for a more timeless, polished look
Studio lighting allows us to work calmly and consistently, creating striking images regardless of the weather.
Outdoor Sessions
Outdoor sessions are relaxed and natural, ideal for dogs who love space to move. These sessions capture connection, movement, and your dog in a more lifestyle setting.
I’ll help guide you on which option best suits your dog.
Breed, Behaviour & Safety
All breeds are very welcome 🤍 However, for the safety of everyone involved:
- Dogs must have basic obedience training
- Dogs must not be people-reactive
Your dog’s comfort, safety, and wellbeing are always the top priority, and sessions are kept positive and stress-free.
Toys, Treats & Outfits
You’re encouraged to bring:
- Your dog’s favourite toys
- High-value treats (especially helpful for studio sessions)
- Outfits or fun PJs if that suits your dog’s personality
These personal touches help create images that truly reflect who your dog is.
Including Owners in the Images
Owners are more than welcome to be included in the photos. These images often become the most meaningful — capturing the bond, connection, and love you share with your dog.
If you plan to be included, I recommend wearing neutral, simple clothing so the focus remains on your dog.
What to Expect During the Session
Dog sessions are relaxed, flexible, and dog-led. We allow time for:
- Sniffing and settling into the environment
- Breaks when needed
- Plenty of praise and encouragement
Not every dog will sit perfectly or perform on cue — and that’s okay. Some of the best images come from natural moments in between.
Packages & Investment
I offer a variety of dog photography packages to suit different needs, whether you’re after a quick portrait session or a more creative, styled experience.
I’m always happy to help you choose the right option for you and your dog.
